The Faculty of Theology at the University of Ljubljana is pleased to present a new scientific monograph, When a Family Begins Anew: Core Concepts of Family Therapy, by Saša Poljak Lukek.

This is the English translation of the author’s successful Slovenian book, Ko družina začne znova: temeljni pojmi družinske terapije (When a Family Begins Anew: Core Concepts of Family Therapy), which has become a reference work in the field of family therapy. The translation enables insights drawn from extensive clinical experience and a deep understanding of family dynamics to reach a broader international research and professional audience.

The monograph presents the fundamental concepts of family therapy, essential for understanding and implementing the therapeutic process, in a clear, analytical, and accessible manner. The content covers the history and development of family therapy, as well as practical approaches for different phases of therapeutic work: establishing a therapeutic relationship, setting goals, interventions, maintaining achieved changes, and concluding the therapeutic process.

Special emphasis is given to ethical considerations, understanding the therapist’s role, and complex issues encountered when working with families in contemporary society. The book provides useful tools, conceptual frameworks, and concrete examples.

The monograph is freely available in digital form:
