The Faculty of Theology is one of the co-founders of the University of Ljubljana. Studies and scientific research activities are conducted in Ljubljana and at the Maribor Unit.

Faculty of Theology ensures a high-quality teaching and scientific research process. It aims to equip students with the skills to critically reflect on topics related to social reality, the present and transcendence, interpersonal relationships, faith, revelation, canon law, morality, and education. It provides knowledge in the fields of humanities and social sciences, primarily within groups of philosophical and theological disciplines. The latter include biblical-exegetical theology, historical theology, systematic theology, and practical theology. It offers students of marriage and family studies knowledge for counselling, teaching, research, and preventive work in various areas of marriage and family issues.

The Faculty of Theology is an autonomous and creative academic community of teachers, researchers, students, and other collaborators. It implements the national higher education programme and the national scientific research programme.

Development and research at the faculty are conducted within scientific institutes, which collaborate with related departments and other research organisations outside the faculty that participate in its scientific and research activities. Programme groups and individual project groups are also actively involved in scientific research. Researchers publish in both domestic and international scientific publications.

Scientific publishing: The faculty has its own core publishing activities, which ensure the publication of the latest findings by university teachers, associates, and researchers at the faculty, as well as translations of foreign scientific achievements, primarily in the field of theology. Scientific and research achievements are published in book series (Acta Theologica Sloveniae, Scientific Library, TEOF Handbooks, and Monasticism) and in scientific journals (Theological Quarterly, Acta ecclesiastica Sloveniae, and Unity and Dialogue).
