Visiting Professor Dr. Raid Al-Daghistani (born in 1983 in Ljubljana) studied philosophy in Ljubljana and Freiburg as well as Arabic and Islamic studies in Sarajevo and Münster, where he first obtained his master's degree (Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali: Erkenntnislehre und Lebensweg, Freiburg in Br., Kalam 2011), then his doctorate (Epistemologie des Herzens: Erkenntnisaspekte der islamischen Mystik, Köln, Ditib 2017), and in 2024 completed his post-doctoral degree (Habilitation) on the topic of Islamic mysticism and mystical theology (Der (un)erkannte Gott: Die Grundzüge der mystischen Theologie ʿAbd al-Ǧabbār an-Niffarīs, Baden-Baden, Karl Alber 2024).

He is currently a Researcher and a Lecturer at the Institute for Islamic Theology (PIIT) at the University of Paderborn, where he was also a visiting professor for of Islamic Systematic Theology in winter semester 2025-2026. Prior to that, he worked for many years as a research assistant and later as a private lecturer at the Center for Islamic Theology (ZIT) at the University of Münster, where he finished his habilitation thesis (Habilitationsschrift) on the mystical theology of the 10th century Muslim mystic ʿAbd al-Jabbār an-Niffarī (“Der (un)erkannte Gott: Die Grundzüge mystischer Theologie ʿAbd al-Ǧabbār an-Niffarīs”, Karl Alber 2024). Besides he is also a visiting lecturer at the Department of Islamic Theology and Religious Education (IITR) at the University of Innsbruck and a researcher fellow at the Department of Theological Faculty (TEOF) at the University in Ljubljana.

Raid Al-Daghistani is the author of six monographs, three translations, and numerous scientific articles in Slovenian, German, and English. His primary areas of teaching and research are Islamic mysticism (Sufism), mystical theology, Kalām, the epistemology of religious experiences, classical Arab-Islamic philosophy, Islamic anthropology, Sufi ethics, the body and corporeality in Islamic spirituality, and the question of interreligious dialogue.
